Professor Cottier has been working in the Arctic for more than 20 years. He is committed to Arctic education and founded the SAMS UHI BSc marine science with Arctic studies degree stream in 2007. He is an adjunct Professor at UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, and has an extensive network of research collaboration throughout the Arctic nations. He has been prominent in the promotion of the Scottish Government Arctic Policy Framework and development of an academic network of Arctic-focussed institutes in Scotland.
