Session Outline

Is an online presence essential or just an optional extra for a researcher/practitioner? In this session we will consider the pros and cons of devoting time to your online profile and what this might achieve for your research/practice impact and career. What might you have to share and who do you want to meet? You will be encouraged to reflect on your own ambitions and preferences to decide where your efforts should be focussed for maximum effect. We will look at different platforms and encourage sharing of experiences and tips.

Presenter

Dr Sam Oakley

Sam Oakley

I work in Researcher Development at the University of Glasgow with a specific focus on Research Integrity training and support. This work draws on skills and experience gained when Research Librarian at the University of Swansea: a major part of this role was promoting open research, online networking and impact for researchers. My original research background was Egyptology and I also worked in IT for many years before retraining as a librarian. You can find me on LinkedIn or as @rscsam on Twitter
