University Learning and Teaching Conference 2023

content

UHI's Learning and Teaching Conference 2023 will be held on Monday 18 - Tuesday 19 December 2023 at UHI Inverness campus. The conference will be hybrid, offering presentations and workshops to explore our teaching and learning practice, curriculum, and quality assurance and enhancement processes in our tertiary education.

The title for the symposium is ‘Role modelling, re-modelling and re-imagining’. We invited proposals of interest from colleagues keen to present sessions that explore the four conference themes:

An upheld fist within a cog

Resilience

Exploring how we, as a university and individuals, support the development of resilience in our staff, our students, and our curriculum.

Icons depicting flexibility in education

Flexibility

Considering flexibility in learning and teaching, exploring how we deliver teaching, where we deliver it and what this means for students. Also looking at how taking an inclusive and student-centred approach can be at the heart of our hybrid and online tertiary learning environment.

Icons depicting sustainability

Sustainability

Exploring social, economic, and environmental sustainability in learning and teaching in relation to delivery, in developing sustainable skills with students, and developing and embedding a green curriculum at UHI.

Icons depicting landscape

Landscapes

Considering the UHI's tertiary landscape and where it sits nationally and internationally. Exploring how an integrated approach enhances the student journey, influences curriculum design and supports quality assurance and enhancement.

Colleagues are encouraged to explore through the themes how they are ‘role modelling’ good practice, and/or ‘re-modelling’ their practice and/or ‘re-imagining’ their own practice or the wider practice and/or curriculum of tertiary education. This could be (but is not limited to) in relation to post-covid, within the context of institutional or sector policies or strategies (e.g. the UHI Learning and Teaching Enhancement Strategy), or within the changing landscape of tertiary education (e.g. the planned move in the Scottish post-compulsory education sector towards a single quality assurance framework and/or with limited budget/resources).

Event format

The programme will offer keynotes, presentations, and workshops from colleagues at UHI and invited guest speakers. There will be opportunity to attend and present either on campus or online synchronously or through pre-recorded sessions. The LTA will be securing a number of hotel rooms for colleagues travelling from out-with Inverness, and a small travel contribution will be available for colleagues travelling from Islands.
