Biography
Roland Preston is senior lecturer and programme lead for MSc Advance Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Professional Practice within the Centre for Rural Health Sciences. Roland is a qualified nurse with 33 years’ clinical and academic experience both national and international practicing at specialist and advanced practice level in critical care, anaesthesia and domiciliary ventilatory support.
Prior to joining UHI Roland was Lecturer Practitioner and Deputy Programme Lead for MSc Advance Practice at University of the West of Scotland. Clinically Roland practiced at advanced practice level in critical care, anaesthesia and latterly in domiciliary ventilatory support as an autonomous practitioner.
Research
Roland's main area of research interest is in:
- Advanced Practice role development
- Acute and chronic non-invasive ventilator support
Roland has conducted two research studies;
- The Role and Education of the American Nurse Anaesthetist and possible development Within the UK Florence Nightingale Foundation Travel Scholarship 1996
- A Service Evaluation of the effect of Domiciliary Nocturnal Non-invasive Ventilation in Severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease on hospital admissions and length of hospital stay.
