BA(Hons) Culture & Heritage

Our flexible choices will help you develop key strengths as you progress towards your chosen career. You can study full-time, part-time structured (half time) or part-time unstructured (however many modules you prefer to study) to suit your personal circumstances. We will work around you. You may also study individual modules with us for personal or professional development.

MLitt Highlands & Islands Literature

This exciting taught postgraduate literature course allows you to study the writers and literatures of the Highlands and Islands, in the communities to which they belong. Trace the footsteps of these inspirational creatives, explore the literary heritage of the area and experience, first hand, the diverse culture of the region.

MLitt Island Studies

Island communities are often culturally unique, yet by their nature they share many commonalities, sometimes referred to as 'islandness'. As part of the degree you will undertake comparative and multi-disciplinary study of the Scottish islands, however, island communities as diverse as the Baltic, the Faroe islands, the Isle of Man, the Falklands and Canadian islands, will also be integral to your studies, particularly the critical appraisal of insular governance, tourism and autonomy.

MLitt Orkney and Shetland Studies

This is the only course of its kind that focuses on studying the history, culture, literature, archaeology and language of the Orkney and Shetland islands; communities of significant strategic importance through the ages.

MLitt Scottish Heritage

This fully online, interdisciplinary taught postgraduate course is delivered by world-leading experts in their fields and you will be supported throughout by this enthusiastic teaching team. The course has been developed to attract Scottish, UK and overseas student of Scottish descent or with an interest in Scotland, and those who have businesses with a Scottish theme.

MLitt Viking Studies

Students will be able to critically evaluate key historical, economic, and social developments in the Viking world and analyse the significance and legacy of the cultural history of the Vikings both in isolation and in a wider context temporally and geographically. You will look at Viking iconography in text and film, the role of women, and the significance of runes among other fascinating topics.
