Session Outline

This short workshop is organised by UHI Work-based Learning Hub and will provide an opportunity to discuss meta skills and how they are included in an increasing number of apprenticeship frameworks from SCQF 4 to 10.

Meta Skills are the higher-order skills that learners can identify and develop during their qualification and were developed by SDS in collaboration with practitioners and employers. They are currently included across all the Graduate Apprenticeship programmes, Level4/5 frameworks for senior phase pupils and are now being introduced over time into Modern Apprenticeship frameworks.

The workshop will be of particular interest to curriculum staff who are providing apprenticeship programmes from senior phase to degree level or considering offering a new apprenticeship programme.

The Work-based Learning Hub was set up to manage apprentice programmes across Further and Higher Education, along with facilitating and supporting the development of all work-based learning programmes. UHI currently has cohorts across four Graduate Apprenticeships frameworks (Civil Engineering; Early Learning and Childcare - ELC); Business Management; Construction and the Built Environment) out of a total of twelve frameworks plus more than 50 Modern Apprenticeship frameworks at varying levels and 13 Foundation Apprenticeship frameworks at SCQF Level 4, 5 or 6.

Presenter

Clara Hickey

As the Work-based Learning Manager, Clara Hickey oversees the apprenticeship contracts for the university and supports the academic partners to ensure contract compliance. In addition, the Hub provides support and facilitate community of practice in relation to work-based learning including the development of new Graduate Apprenticeship qualifications, best practice for assessments and ensuring a quality delivery. As someone who has undertaken a Graduate Apprenticeship while working full-time, she can understand the issues apprentices face while also balancing the need to ensure we meet the rigours of academic standards.
