Assistance for teaching staff during COVID-19

Session outline

This webinar, delivered by Carolin Radtke of the EDU and supported by the LTA and LIS, will explore challenges of moving teaching and learning fully online. There will be a specific focus on considerations in relation to synchronous online teaching of large cohorts, however staff with smaller cohorts are equally invited to come along to get questions answered and get new ideas for keeping synchronous teaching and learning varied and engaging. Together we will have a look at the range of available synchronous teaching tools as well as the university’s lecture recording tool MediaL. In addition, we will discuss asynchronous tools and activities which should be used as a supplement to synchronous teaching sessions and lecture recordings.

To maximise this opportunity we are asking that staff submit questions or highlight areas they would like to be discussed when they register. This will help us cover the most relevant topics and provide the most accurate and appropriate information on the day.

This includes information from related to options and platforms to support online synchronous teaching instructions in addition to a small number of online learning and teaching activities that the LTA and EDU are recommending for implementation in all units and modules on Brightspace.

It is important that colleagues visit the site above regularly as LIS are working on alternative solutions that will minimise impact on staff and help control data flows. Colleagues should also work through the self-assessment checklist on the ‘Teaching from home’ section.
