Session Outline
This session will offer colleagues the opportunity to hear from and discuss compassionate learning environments and student support with colleagues in the HISA and Student Experience team, supporting students through and beyond their student journey at UHI. Drawing on the Student Learning Experience model from sparqs Simon Varwell, Director of Student Engagement & Representation, HISA and Shannon MacCallum, Vice-President Education, HISA will explore how staff can facilitate a respectful, constructive and compassionate learning environment that are mindful of the wider context of students’ lives, experiences and identities. Nicola Smith, Head of Careers and Employability will explore principles of compassionate pedagogy, student challenges, and staff well-being and self-care. The session will also provide information on how and when staff can effectively and collaboratively utilise the UHI support services to refer students.
Chaired by Nicola Smith, this session will start with short presentations before moving into a panel discussion and participant Q&A.
