Hannah McDiarmid
University of the Highlands and Islands Higher Education Student of the Year 2017
Hannah achieved a BA (Hons) in Gaelic language and culture while managing cystic fibrosis, a chronic, life-limiting condition which affects the lungs and the digestive systems. Enrolled as a distance-learning student with Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI, she completed her degree from her hometown of Torvaig, Portree, on the Isle of Skye.
Danielle O'Hagan
University of the Highlands and Islands Further Education Student of the Year 2017
Danielle, from Kirkwall, completed a National Certificate in computer technologies with games design at Orkney College UHI. Danielle was nominated for the award by her lecturer, Magnus Tullock. She was commended for her outstanding work as well as her bravery in managing her epilepsy and raising awareness of the condition.
Esther Renwick
University of the Highlands and Islands Postgraduate Student of the Year 2017
Esther, from Stromfirth, Shetland, achieved her PhD in archaeology while bringing up three small children, and by studying part time over a ten year period at Shetland College UHI.
