Scott Burton
Highland Theological College UHI student of the year
Scott Burton was nominated for the award of student of the year of Highland Theological College UHI by several students and the nomination was wholeheartedly backed up by staff. Scott has been hugely supportive of his fellow students and always goes the extra mile to help and encourage his peers. He has been particularly good at keeping in touch with distance-learning students to ensure they feel as much a part of the student community as those based on campus.
Scott has worked hard to establish a community of fellowship, support and joint learning for Highland Theological College distance learners. He has made sure that new, isolated and/or struggling students do not feel unsupported and goes out of his way to phone and meet students in need of fellowship. Scott also organises the twice-yearly socials for students away from the college in the central belt, so fellowship can be encouraged and maintained.
Scott himself has had to deal with painful personal problems during the course of his studies, but has continued to reach out with grace to other students in need. Academically he has shared his ability to make the complex theological subjects accessible to less able students and has always put 100% into class discussions, seminars and examinations.
