Her lecturers described her as a hardworking and enthusiastic student with a real flare for textile design reflected in her body of work. This year Marcia also served as Shetland College’s first Highlands and Islands Students’ Association depute president, diligently representing the views of the student body on a local and regional basis. On winning the award, Marcia said she was “Absolutely delighted! Returning to study as a mature student has been a very positive experience for me, and I’m very much enjoying my time at Shetland College and engaging in student life.”
Irene Peterson, acting principal of Shetland College UHI, said: “The calibre of our student of the year nominees this year was outstanding, making the overall selection process by the panel additionally challenging. All the nominees presented extremely well at interview, sharing their experiences of their individual learning journeys at Shetland College UHI.”
