Karla Urquhart received the student journey in higher education award from Inverness College UHI. She was voted student of the year by her peers for her hard-working, personable and positive approach to her studies.
Karla’s student journey at Inverness College UHI began in 2011/12 when she embarked on a 2-year full time HND Sports Coaching with Development of Sport. During her four years at Inverness College UHI, Karla has consistently produced work of a very high standard. In her third year of her course, Karla completed her work placement with High Life Highland, where she worked with Active Schools and youth work. During her placement, Karla developed personally and professionally, and in particular furthered her knowledge regarding strategic development planning of clubs and programmes and realised the importance of staff and volunteer management.
Speaking of her award success, Karla said: “I’ve had an excellent experience as a student at Inverness College UHI. I’ve not only been able to pursue my interest in sports and coaching without having to move away to study, I’ve also been presented with many opportunities to develop other important life skills. I’m now looking forward to graduation and entering the world of work.”
