Scottish Association for Marine Science UHI Student of the Year

 

Christopher was nominated by his lecturers because he has a fantastic determination to succeed within his chosen field of Marine Science. He flourished whilst on the course to achieve good grades and progress.  When things haven't worked out, as they often don’t in science, he just revised and got going again.  His professionalism to his projects was refreshing and at times it was hard to remember he was still an undergraduate student.

Chris has always taken pride in being a marine science student and more importantly a University of the Highlands and Islands student. This has been borne out in the number of outreach activities he has been part of in his own time. Everything from at a local level encouraging scouts in the importance of the marine environment to them, to talking to the general public at a seaweed event at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh in September 2013.  He volunteered in the Ocean Explorers centre contributing to spreading the Science word around the local area, via schools workshops and STEM activities. His love for science and the promotion of it amongst others has led him to seek out the opportunity of furthering his education and applying for teacher training course once he graduates from the Scottish Association for Marine Science UHI.

Chris’ engaging personality made him an excellent ambassador for the Scottish Association for Marine Science UHI and the Marine Science degree. His enthusiasm at open days is bound to inspire future students with similar interests to enrol.
