Sian Carlin
West Highland College UHI student of the year 2011
“Model student” Sian Carlin overcame serious injury to achieve exceptional grades in the first year of the BA (Hons) Adventure Tourism Management degree.
Sian, who is hoping to establish a career in adventure tourismmarketing, was already a conscientious student, achieving exceptional grades, when she was injured in a climbing accident on Ben Nevis, during an outing with friends.
A bad fall left her with many broken bones, yet she returned to her studies within just a few months.
She has been described as a tremendous asset to the college’s student community, speaking to potential students at open days about life in Fort William, activities and adventure tourism. She also uses the college’s social networking to answer questions and discuss issues about student life in the area.
Sian commented of her studies, “It is absolutely brilliant – everything I wanted and more."
