New Course! CertHE Highland Heritage for Tourism

Have you ever wanted to dive deep into Scotland's amazing history and active tourism scene? UHI Institute for Northern Studies have announced the launch of a brand new course addressing Scotland’s tourism across the region with the one-year (full time) Cert HE Highland Heritage for Tourism. Not only will you get to explore Scotland's fascinating heritage, but you'll also pick up some seriously handy skills that will set you up for success in hospitality, tour guiding, heritage, and tourism. The course covers everything from the roots of Scotland's heritage to its current sense and where it's headed in the tourism world.
Programme Leader Lynn Campbell said “the course will give students essential skills and understanding of what is involved in working within Scotland’s vibrant tourism scene, and will investigate tourism from a number of angles, touching on everything from history and social anthropology to cultural studies. We'll chat about the nitty-gritty of tourism and what makes it tick, how it affects different places and cultures, and what role tech plays in the game today. Plus, we'll cover the things like sustainability and safety.”

We'll introduce you to the skills needed to thrive in this exciting industry, and you'll get a mix of academic critique and real-world know-how that will set you up for success. It is for anyone interested in working within Scotland’s tourism scene and will particularly appeal to those wishing to branch out into tour guiding as we will be working with the Highlands of Scotland Tour Guides Association for those wishing to upskill with practical hands-on tour guide training.”
Students will gain valuable expertise in tour guiding, teamwork, and problem-solving, and upon graduation they will be ready for anything – whether it is event management, hospitality, preserving culture, becoming a self-motivated tour guide, or shaping the future of tourism.
