How to apply
If you decide that UHI is the right option for you, you’ll need to submit an application.
Most applications for undergraduate study are made through the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS) website, and it is likely that you’ll complete much of this application at your school.
Applying to study at university is a competitive process so it’s important that you submit the strongest possible application to help you to stand out from the crowd.
As part of the application process you will need to complete a personal statement to tell us about:
- yourself, your interests and goals
- your interest in the course(s) you’ve chosen
- your career aspirations
- any volunteering, work experience or paid employment you’ve undertaken
Alongside their academic qualifications, the personal statement is one of the elements of the application things that we will use to make a decision on whether you are offered a place to study at UHI, so it is important that this is as detailed as possible.
To help you to prepare your personal statement we’ve prepared some guidance below
Clearing
If unfortunately you don’t get the grades you require to meet the requirements for your first-choice or back-up degree course, you can still attend university through clearing which is the way of applying for a university course if:
- You are not holding any offers from universities or colleges you have applied to
- You didn't meet the conditions of your offer
- You are applying after the end of June.
Clearing typically takes place immediately after exam results are released so it’s important to assess your options and move quickly. While clearing is usually associated with school leavers, it is also the pathway into university for everyone including mature and late applicants.
Each year, we post available course vacancies on our dedicated clearing webpage in addition to UCAS’s clearing service.
The Exam Results Helpline – 0808 100 8000 – offers impartial, expert advice to help you to apply through clearing.
