BSc (Hons) Geography, 2020

"Studying BSc (Hons) Geography at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) was life changing. I developed a scientific mindset and approach to problems and had the opportunity to use this in real world scenarios including a month’s work placement with RSPB Scotland in Edinburgh and fieldwork in the Swiss Alps. In addition, the student experience was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed my year as Student President.

After graduating from UHI, I moved to the University of Reading, furthering my research interest in urban meteorology and climate change alongside world-class academics.

I am now a Climate Change Strategy Officer working in local government and use the skills and experience I gained at university to help tackle the climate emergency. I also remain connected with UHI as an Associate Researcher focussed on climate change and the environment.

In recognition of my innovative research and professional practice, in 2022 I was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. In the same year, I was shortlisted as Scotland's Youth Climate Champion at the Holyrood Green Giant Awards.

UHI has been integral to my development and so I am very honoured to give something back through my position as alumni ambassador."
