BEng (Hons), Aircraft Engineering with Air Transport Operations and Management, 2018

"UHI has set me up with the skills and tools to be able to engage with a wide variety of people all from different walks of like and all with different views. I gained a plethora of theoretical and practical skills at UHI Perth whilst also improving my knowledge in the applied field of aviation. As my end of year project, I constructed a motion platform that still stands in the Dunne Laboratory in UHI Perth. This was great fun but also allowed me to put all the skills I had obtained into practice.

Since graduating I have gained employment on the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) engineering graduate scheme, where I have been training to broaden my horizons and understand the wider picture of the many engineering projects available. In the graduate scheme I have had the opportunity to work within the DE&S project team primarily working on unmanned drone systems, satellites and helicopter system integration. I was then posted to RAF Odiham working within the Chinook Continual Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) to ensure they maintain their fleet airworthiness and are compliant with Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulations. During my scheme I have also been seconded to GKN Aerospace Filton where I worked to bring in autonomous manufacturing cells to reduce waste, increase part accuracy and reduce risk to life. My last placement on the scheme is with Prodtex Ltd a research and development company bringing new and innovative technology to a variety of engineering fields not limited too but including aerospace, automotive and construction.

I am an Associate Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and have utilised this to increase my knowledge of future technologies such as urban air mobility and the future of fossil fuels within the aerospace sector. My goal is to become chartered with the RAeS and gain my CEng status."
