  • We were saddened to hear of the death of Professor Sir Alistair MacFarlane in November. Sir Alistair was a staunch supporter and advisor to the UHI Project from its inception. He served as Chairman of the UHI Academic Advisory Board and was a member of Academic Council throughout the 1990s, bringing his expertise in the application of new technology to learning. As Chief Executive (interim) of the UHI Project, he provided the gravitas and political acumen to guide us to designation as a higher education institution in April 2001 – and the birth of UHI Millennium Institute. He was undoubtedly one of the pivotal figures in our history. We hope he was proud of the institution we have become.
